Morrisons launches new food boxes for under £30 with recipes included

Morrisons has unveiled its new two food boxes to help feed families across the country. With one designed for school children entitled to free school meals and the other one for a family of four, the supermarket’s boxes contain healthy ingredients and recipe cards to help plan meals.

With the UK in lockdown and many people working from home with children, it can be hard to juggle homeschooling and working at the same time.

One of Morrisons’ food boxes contains a mixture of fresh and dry ingredients, which the supermarket says will make five meals for £1.50 a portion.

Meals that can be made from the ingredients including spaghetti and meatballs, chilli con carne and veggie curry.

Morrisons said: “We’ve also thrown in hearty meals like Cheesy Leek and Mushroom Pie and Warming Sausage and Butterbean Bake which will keep you warm in the colder months and allow you to try something different this year.”

The box costs £30 but the supermarket also offers a subscription service for £28.50 where the box is delivered regularly.

The supermarket has also increased the capacity of its meal delivery service for school children entitled to free school meals whilst schools remain closed.

The Morrisons School Box costs £15 and delivers £15 worth of food to the children who need it most.

It has been developed in partnership with Morrisons nutritionist Dr Hayley Marson to ensure the items included are nutritious.

Schools in England can claim back the costs from the government as part of the free school meals programme.

Morrisons is now providing those eligible with more food than ever to help then while the schools are closed.

Rebecca Singleton, Customer and Community Director at Morrisons, said:  “Since November, schools have been telling us they’ve had difficulty getting free school meals to children as many parents cannot get to a supermarket during the pandemic. Our Morrisons School Meals Boxes will ensure that children are getting good quality, nutritional food delivered directly to their door.”

While these boxes are only available if purchased by a school, the supermarket has a number of other boxes available.

These include the £45 British Food Box which is packed full of meat, vegetables and dairy products, the £15 Winter Vegetables Box which is made up of seasonal veg and Morrisons’ £20 Cupboard Essentials Box which is packed with tins, pasta and rice.

Other boxes include a Veganuary Box, a Fruit Favourites Box and The Ultimate Cleaning Bundle packed with cleaning products for just £35.

These are available online only but for shoppers picking up essentials in-store, the retailer has a number of rules to follow.

Shoppers who enter the supermarket without wearing a mask will be challenged and customers are urged to use the sanitisation stations available for trolley and basket handles.

The retailer also has expanded its Click and Collect service for those who can’t make it to the shop.

The service is also available without an additional delivery charge and is contact-free.

Customers can also pick a time slot that best suits them.
