Serena Williams was in tears after she was forced to retire through injury in the Rogers Cup final against Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu.
The 37-year-old, who was beaten in the Wimbledon final by Simona Halep last month, was four games into her match against Andreescu when she complained to her trainer about feeling back spasms.
A tearful Williams was consoled in her chair by Andreescu who said: Ive watched you your whole career, youre a f*****g beast.
But injuries… Ive been through so many already, I mean you know how they are.

This sucks, on youre back right, I know everything about you!
Youve pushed yourself so much throughout your career, you know when its time to stop.
Williams could now be a doubt for the US Open which begins on August 26.
Speaking after the match, Williams, who was targeting her first WTA title since the birth of her daughter, Olympia, in September 2017 said: I just knew.
I knew I wasnt going to be able to continue.
