Tony Cascarino has compared Ruben Loftus-Cheek to Michael Ballack has said hes already as good as Chelseas summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Loftus-Cheek, the 22-year-old midfielder, starred for Crystal Palace on Saturday as they demolished Leicester 5-0. He got on the scoresheet to cap a showing in which he dominated the midfield, earning a lot of well-deserved praise.
And Cascarino joined talkSPORT on Monday morning to rave about Loftus-Cheek, who joined Palace from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal last summer, saying he will be part of the Blues first-team next year.
“Hes Michael Ballack of the midfield,” the former Stamford Bridge striker said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“He can be an attacker, he shields the ball brilliantly, and for Wilf [Zahas] goal… his tight control in possession – he does it brilliantly.
“You cannot ignore him.
“He wont be the Mo Salah, the Kevin De Bruyne thats let go by Chelsea.
“If any club thinks they are going to snatch him away from Chelsea on the cheap, that is not going to happen to Loftus-Cheek for me.
“I think hell be a Chelsea player next year.”
Cascarinos comments on Loftus-Cheek came after he had written about the midfielder, who has been capped twice by England, in his Times column.
While he told talkSPORT Loftus-Cheek will be in the Chelsea team next season, in his column he wrote that the youngster could be in the team now – as he is already as good as Tiemoue Bakayoko, signed by Chelsea last summer for £40m.
Cascarino wrote: “He could be in the Chelsea team now instead of Tiemoue Bakayoko — he is as good as the Frenchman signed for £40 million — and I think he would be a good midfield partner for NGolo Kante.”
