Manchester City FC news: Kevin De Bruyne has been good, but look at Raheem Sterlings improvement

This season Raheem Sterling has scored more goals than he ever has

Raheem Sterling's incredible form this season is a big reason for Manchester City's Premier League success – what an improvement.

Credit for the title triumph will go to Pep Guardiola, the manager, as well as the sensational Kevin De Bruyne and rightly so, but talkSPORT.com is focusing on Sterling.

Time and again the 23-year-old has been the hero and he is quite rightly on the PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist and probably should be in the running for the Player of the Year gong, too.

Sterling's prowess in front of goal this season has also been notable. Finding the back of the net has been a problem for him in the past and it is understood Guardiola told him he should be a 20-goal-a-season player. At the time of writing he has found the back of the net 22 times in all competitions, including 17 in the Premier League – more than his previous two seasons combined.

"It is definitely my best season in terms of goalscoring," he said in December. "Who wouldn't enjoy this? It's something I've always wanted to do and I've always wanted to improve on and get better at. I'm just happy to bring that to pass and hopefully I can carry on."

And as you can see from the numbers below, courtesy of The Times, his performances this season have improved dramatically compared with his previous two campaigns.
