The Reds are hoping to move one step closer to their sixth European Cup, while Eusebio De Francescos side are aiming for an unlikely run to a first ever success – and revenge over Liverpool for 1984.
The Italians were defeated on penalties in their home ground, the Stadio Olimpico, in the final that year, and progressing to the 2018 final by knocking out Liverpool would go some way to making up for that historic night.
What the managers are saying:
Jurgen Klopp: “If anybody thinks this is the easiest draw then I cannot help this person; they obviously didnt see both games against Barcelona. In the first result, the 4-1, it was not like the game was – it was Messi genius against a good side of Roma. The second leg was outstanding, it was outstanding what they did. They should have probably won four or five-nil – I was really impressed.”
Eusebio De Francesco: “I dont need [my players] to tell me [about Salah]. His qualities are very clear. Dont forget that I prepared games against him in Italy, too. But the fact lots of our players know him well, that can be an advantage.”
What the players are saying:
Virgil van Dijk: “I haven't watched too many Roma games to be fair. I have not played against Dzeko before but everyone knows the result against Barcelona. We know they have a lot of quality and we know about most of the players, so we need to be ready for anything. I am not worried at all. We need to keep doing what we did in the last games and recover now and focus on Roma now from Monday.”
Edin Dzeko: “Hopefully hes [Klopp] not going to a third final, at least not this year. I wish them well – for next year. I know him from Germany. I know the style he wants to play – and thats attacking football. We are the kind of team as well who like to attack. Roma have to be positive. Otherwise it will be a difficult task. Knowing Klopp, and Liverpool at Anfield, they will go for it in the first game. Well be prepared. We have to be.”
