Huddersfield Town 0-2 Everton: Terriers in relegation danger after being punished by Toffees

Huddersfield Town have been sucked back into the relegation mire after suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to Everton.

Cenk Tosun's clinical finish gave Everton a half-time lead and midfielder Idrissa Gueye blasted home their second with 13 minutes left to hand the Toffees a comfortable three points.

It was a damaging defeat for Huddersfield, whose victory over Watford in their last match had given their survival hopes a big lift.

A seventh home loss of the season, though, coupled with wins for relegation rivals Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Brom, has left David Wagner's side three points above the drop zone.

Everton have now lost only one of their last seven games, winning four, but their travelling fans made clear their displeasure at the continued presence of Sam Allardyce in their dugout.

STAR MAN: Idrissa Gueye

The Senegal star commanded Evertons midfield and helped secure three points with an unstoppable finish. Gueye was instrumental in breaking up play in the middle of the park, winning countless tracking and helping Everton dominate. He added a fine goal to his performance, too. Teed up by Baines on the edge of the area, he had plenty of time to measure up his shot and fired a arrowed finish into the bottom-right corner. A great goal and a great display by the Toffees man.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Tosun continues away form

Much was expected of Turkey striker Tosun when he arrived in January for £27m, and while he hasn't set Goodison Park alight, there have been glimpses of his talent. Today's goal was one of them. It was a wonderful run for Theo Walcott to set up the striker, but Tosun's finish was crisp and precise and tucked into the bottom-left corner. No Everton player has scored more away league goals than Tosun this season – that was his fourth in just seven games. There's more to come from him.
