The last man to win the Ballon d'Or before who was not either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi was former Real Madrid and AC Milan star Kaka…in 2007.

Since then, the little Argentine maestro and the preneed Portuguese star have duked it out in a two-man battle for global supremacy.

It was feared another human would simply never have a chance to win the prestigious award was long as these two were still playing.

However, fans think the spell of dominace between Messi and Ronaldo could finally be broken.

This season, Mohamed Salah has been utterly brilliant for Liverpool and was deservedly named the PFA Player of the Year on Sunday evening.

After scoring two and setting up two in the Reds' 5-2 Champions League demolition of Roma on Tuesday night, fans believe the 'Egyptian King' could be crowned the winner of the Ballon d'Or at the end of the year.
