The former Manchester United boss was involved in a long-running rivalry with Wenger during their time together in the Premier League, although the bitterness softened towards the end of the Scots reign at Old Trafford.
We are friends now, Alex Ferguson and myself, Wenger said during his press conference on Thursday.
Yes [Ferguson has been in touch] – I keep that [what was said] private.
He called me yesterday, I will have to call him back today.
Ferguson retired in 2003 at the age of 71 after spending 26 years in charge of United.
But Wenger, who turns 69 in October, insists he has no plans to retire after he ends his 22-year reign at Arsenal.
Honestly, I dont know what I will do. Will I take a little rest? I will continue to work, thats for sure.
When asked if he would reject an offer before the end of the season, Wenger replied: At the moment yes, because Im not ready to commit to anything and give my best for Arsenal.
