Arsene Wenger has urged Arsenal to finish the season on a high despite announcing his departure after 22 years at the club.

The Gunners face West Ham on Sunday in what is Wengers first game in charge of the club since his shock announcement on Friday.

There have been a host of names already touted as future replacements for the Frenchman, including Patrick Vieira and Brendan Rodgers, but Wenger is still fully focused on completing the season strongly.

Im sure you are all aware that, after careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season, Wenger said in Arsenals programme.


I do not want to say too much now, but as I said on Friday I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club with full commitment and integrity for so many memorable years.

For now there are still seven football matches to play this season.

After the clash against the Hammers, Arsenal face Atletico Madrid in the semi-final first leg on Thursday, their last chance of claiming silverware this season.
