Arsene Wenger has singled out Arsenals victory over Real Madrid as his favourite European match in charge of the north London club.

The long-serving Frenchman confirmed last week that he will step aside at the end of the season, bringing down the curtain on his remarkable 22-year tenure.

Wenger has taken charge of over 200 European matches during his time in north London but rates the 1-0 victory over Real back in 2006, when the Spanish giants were at the height of their Galactico project, as his standout victory.

Arsenal became the first English club to win at the Bernabeu thanks to Thierry Henrys memorable solo goal in the first leg and held on for a draw in the return at Highbury against a side which contained the likes of Ronaldo, Raul, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Roberto Carlos.

Arsenal v Real Madrid 2006 | Teams

Arsenal: Lehmann, Eboue, Toure, Senderos, Flamini, Hleb (Bergkamp 86), Silva, Fabregas, Reyes (Pires 68), Henry, Ljungberg.
Subs Not Used: Almunia, Diaby, Song Billong, Walcott, Djourou.

Booked: Henry.

Real Madrid: Casillas, Salgado (Robinho 84), Sergio, Bravo, Carlos, Beckham, Guti, Gravesen (Julio Baptista 67), Zidane, Raul (Cassano 73), Ronaldo.
Subs Not Used: Diego, Helguera, Cicinho, Diogo.

There are many games, said Wenger ahead of Thursdays Europa League semi final first leg against Atletico Madrid. I played over 200 games for Arsenal in Europe.

Its difficult to single one out but maybe when we knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League.

We had a very young team and didnt concede a goal against them. We went to final and knocked out Juventus and Madrid lost. We lost with 10 men in the final in an unfortunate way.

That was I think in 2006 but at the moment I have time to look back.
