Parlour played for eight seasons under the Frenchman at the north London club, winning both the Premier League and FA Cup on three occasions.

He was part of the 'Invincibles' side which went the entire 2003/04 season unbeaten, and has nothing but praise for Wenger as a man and manager.

Speaking to the Jim White show, Parlour said: “The training methods were so good. You got better technically under Arsene Wenger.

“He worked hard with you. If I wanted to do extra work after training on my weaknesses, he would say, I will stay with you and do it. He wanted to make sure he saw you improving.

“He was an honest guy, a great human being. He was a great guy off the field.

“When we trained, we trained hard and we had to concentrate, but he loved a bit of humour. He wanted the players to have fun. People dont see that side of him.

“He was a real good fun character to be around during the trainings sessions and after training sessions.

“He did wonders for my career. I played eight years under him and I improved so much as a player. I cant thank him enough for that.”
