An Arsenal player is in line for his Gunners debut on Arsene Wenger's last trip to Manchester United with the north London club.
Konstantinos Mavropanos, the young centre-back who was signed by the Gunners in January, is reportedly going to start against the Red Devils, according to The Sun.
But who is Mavropanos? talkSPORT gives you the lowdown on the potential debutant…
Full name: Konstantinos Mavropanos
Date of birth: 11/12/1997
Who is he?
Mavropanos is a 20-year-old defender signed by Arsenal on January 4, 2018 from PAS Giannina in his homeland of Greece. He had made 20 appearances for his former club before moving to the Emirates for an undisclosed fee, scoring three goals in those appearances.
He has been capped three times by Greece at Under-21 level.
What type of player is he?
Mavropanos stand out attribute is his physicality. Possessing similar characteristics to his future team-mate Sead Kolasinac, Mavropanos appears to be an upgrade on the Bosnian, who is let down by his lack of pace due to his sheer size. The Greek youngster is relatively quick and is equally comfortable defending from his left or right side. Mavropanos also has an uncanny ability to remain on his feet when faced with opposition attackers and is rarely eased off the ball, even against the biggest of forwards Greek football has to offer. However, the 20-year-old will need to work on his passing ability if he is to fully thrive under Arsene Wenger.
How could he fit in at Arsenal?
Given Arsenal will lose club captain Per Mertesacker to retirement in the summer and Laurent Koscielnys ongoing fitness issues, there is definitely space for a defender to make a starting place their own in north London. Shkodran Mustafi continues to struggle for consistency with the Gunners, and a strong showing at the end of the season for Mavropanos could shoot him to the forefront of the thinking of Arsenal's new manager. He has a great chance to establish himself at the club in the coming months.
