Harry Kane is in a race against time to be fit for Tottenham's first match of the New Year.
The England striker has been laid low by a winter illness and has been forced to miss training in a bid to get better.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino will monitor his response to treatment ahead of their trip to Swansea on 2 January but is not taking anything for granted.
The Argentine coach revealed: "He has a cold like me so is at home but it is no big issue.
"I do not know how he will respond, so we will see if he can be available or not."
Kane is on course to be the first player to score three Premier League hat-tricks in consecutive matches if he makes the trip.
And Pochettino added: "First he has to recover from his illness and see if he can play, but it would be fantastic if he can achieve that.
"Swansea are another difficult opponent and it is a match we both need to win."
The former Celtic defensive midfielder has not featured since suffering a knee injury in August.
But he is back in full training and was almost involved in Pochettino's squad for their Boxing Day win over his last club, Southampton.
The Argentine coach revealed: "Dembele has a problem in his hip and groin and asked to come off [against Southampton] and is a doubt for Tuesday."
Asked if Wanyama would come in, he said: "Maybe. Now we have a lot of players to select from."
