‘This is a different Manchester City…they look unstoppable’ – Pep Guardiola’s side tipped for historic quadruple

Pep Guardiola’s ‘unstoppable’ Manchester City side could become the first team to win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup in the same season, believes former striker Darius Vassell.

City continued their domestic unbeaten streak by beating Leicester City in the League Cup on Tuesday.

The Blues fielded a much-changed side, making ten changes to the team that beat Tottneham on Saturday, and needed penalties to overcome the Foxes, but Guardiola and his team celebrated wildly when Claudio Bravo’s save from Riyad Mahrez sealed their progression to the semi-finals.

It puts City a step closer to more silverware – many have already written off the Premier League title as won with Guardiola’s men sitting 11 points clear at the top of the table.

Manchester United sit in second place and there are some who claim there is still a chance of catching the leaders, citing their title collapses in the last two seasons.

Man City were top In December in the 2015/16 campaign but suffered a drop of form in the New Year and eventually finished fourth, with Leicester claiming an unprecedented Premier League crown.

Last season, Pep Guardiola kicked off his first Premier League season with six straight wins and only one defeat from their opening 13 games. They were top in October but eventually finished third behind champions Chelsea and runners-up Tottenham.

But Vassell says Man City are on another level under the Spanish manager maestro this term, and believes the sky is the limit with four trophies still in sight.

“I think this is a different Manchester City this season,” the former England striker told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“I think they have been special for the last few years, but the way that they’re dominating the league this year, they just look unstoppable.

“They’ve got certain players who are in a different kind of form, they’re on another level.

“Obviously yesterday, in the EFL Cup, you could see they were missing players like [Kevin] De Bruyne in the middle, and I just think if they keep those key players fit they sky is the limit this season.

“We talk about the quadruple with our fingers crossed, hoping that a team does it, just so we can talk about it again, and I think this is the team which is most likely to do it.”
