The creator of Metal Gear Solid has offered a new look at his latest game – and it explains absolutely nothing.
The only thing we were certain of seeing at The Game Awards last night is a new trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, and it didn’t disappoint. Even though we have absolutely no idea what’s going on.
Kojima has never explained what either the story or the gameplay is about, but the new trailer implies some sort of new extinction, or evolutionary, event.
It’s not clear whether the setting is Earth though, or whether the attacking creatures are ghosts or aliens, but, well… it’s best you watch for yourself.
The only hint as to what the gameplay might be like is the idea of the characters having to hold their breath in order to remain undetected by the invisible creatures.
That sounds like it would make a good game mechanic, and if so suggests that at heart this is probably another third person stealth adventure like Metal Gear.
It’s obviously much, much stranger than that, but it’s almost pointless to speculate further.
Although over eight minutes long the trailer gives no indication of a release date, and merely reconfirms that it will launch as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
