Cape Town – Cape Town City head coach Benni McCarthy was cut a frustrated figure after the 1-1 draw against SuperSport United at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
The Citizens took the lead through fit-again winger Aubrey Ngoma two minutes before the break but once again dropped points as defender Azubuike Egwuekwe scored a stoppage-time equaliser for Matsatsantsa.
McCarthy and his men were not only dealing with having to play a home game away from home due to the City of Cape Town not providing an alternative venue to Cape Town Stadium – but they were dealt a sucker punch after enjoying the bulk of the chances during the 90 minutes.
"My players just never listen to simple instructions. Things like, keeping the ball at your feet, you know. We get so many chances and we don’t punish them, which happens too often with this team," McCarthy said post-match.
"Now it's getting to a point where I don’t maybe speak a proper language or perhaps I need to learn to speak another language so that my players can understand because they don’t do the most simple basics right.
"They play well, but we just let too many teams off the hook too many times. It’s either we lose or we draw, but life goes on what can you do."
