France forward Griezmann has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League over the past two years, having become one of the most prolific players in Europe.
Scoring 90 goals in 177 games for Atletico, Griezmann emerged as a target for Jose Mourinho last summer but the 26-year-old remained in the Spanish capital.
According to Marca, Mourinho has now decided to pull out of the race to sign Griezmann, handing Barcelona a significant boost in their pursuit of the goalscorer.
La Liga giants Barca are expected to bolster their squad in the upcoming transfer windows and Griezmann has long been identified as a potential target.
It is claimed Mourinho was happy for United to sign him last summer but, unlike Old Trafford chiefs, was not convinced about his valuation. For this reason, Marca say United will not attempt to sign Griezmann this January or in the summer, even if he becomes available.
Barcelona are now the frontrunners to land his signature but may prefer to make another attempt of signing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.
