Bristol’s boss a big Mourinho fan

Cape Town – Bristol City manager Lee Johnson revealed his admiration for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup clash.

The Robins welcome United to the Ashton Gate Stadium looking for a place in the semi-finals, having already beaten Watford, Stoke City, and Crystal Palace en route.

"It'd be nice to get on as well as I can with him, get chatting to him and trying to pick his brain," Johnson told BBC Sport.

"Jose's right up there – I've read all his books, I've watched any session that's possible to watch, I've studied his interviews.

"He was a player at the same sort of level that I played and hopefully one day I'll be managing at the top level with Bristol City."

The last time the Championship side met their Premier League rivals was back in 1980, when United won 4-0.

Meanwhile, who were knocked out of the League Cup at the fourth round last season to Hull City, have beaten Plymouth Argyle, Watford, Stoke City and Crystal Palace to earn their quarter-final spot.

Johnson revealed his excitement ahead of what is a massive game the club and for him as a manager.

"I’ve been looking forward to this day for the fans,” he told his club's website.

"Our supporters deserve this. We had a bad run last year and it wasn’t much fun; it was more of a stress.

"This season has been more fun and this game epitomises that."

Kick-off is at 22:00 (SA time).
