Jurgen Klopp hailed his team’s maturity as Liverpool moved back into the top four of the Premier League after inflicting a 4-0 hammering of Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The Reds raced to a 3-0 lead at half time with goals from Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren and Mohamed Salah.
Roberto Firmino added Liverpool’s fourth twenty minutes into the second half to round off the easy victory.
And the Liverpool boss, who spoke to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook after the game was very satisfied with Liverpool’s ‘near perfect’ display.
Klopp said: “Yes it was an away game like it should be. We were very focused and very concentrated from the first second.
“We were unbelievably good on the counter-attack, we let the ball do the work. The movement was good as always and we scored some really nice goals and controlled the game at the end which is a really important skill for a football team.
“I think Bournemouth had a few good moments at 2-0 but apart from that I think we played a near perfect game.”
“When we got our fourth goal we played mature football. It was not anything too exciting but that’s good during an intense period of the season.
Liverpool went into the game off the back of two disappointing results against Everton and West Brom, but dominated the Cherries from start to finish.
On 20 minutes, Coutinho’s wonderful solo run and finish found the breakthrough before Lovren’s brave header from a corner doubled their advantage.
Jermain Defoe struck the post when put clean through on goal and moments later the visitors punished Bournemouth for their missed chance when Salah clipped the ball into the corner of the net just before half time.
The away side reduced their intensity but that didn’t stop the goals from coming when Coutinho found an unmarked Firmino, who guided his header beyond Asmir Begovic.
Last year’s fixture between the two sides saw Liverpool throw away a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 in one of the most memorable games of the 2016/17 campaign.
And Klopp was pleased to see his side learn from last season’s mistakes.
He added: “At half-time I think a lot of people may have thought about last year’s game but we showed that we learned from our mistakes this time.
“I’m sure you saw Bournemouth’s game against Manchester United where United were never really able to play football so to play football was our first job to do."
