For around 20 whole seconds, there was hope of a comeback…
…but ultimately West Ham fans were forced to sit through another miserable evening at the London Stadium, as Liverpool ran riot in a resounding 4-1 victory on Saturday night.
As if the result wasn’t enough, the Hammers’ woe was compounded by the feeling that not even Liverpool could screw this up.
There have been two sides to West Ham this season – unfortunately supporters have more often seen the West Ham that last week squandered three points to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace, than the West Ham that came back from 2-0 down to beat rivals Tottenham 3-2 in the EFL Cup.
After finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time against the Reds on Saturday evening, there was a feeling they could stage another miraculous fight back and that hope was real when Manuel Lanzini scored on 55 minutes to give the hosts a foothold.
Less than a minute later, though, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted Liverpool’s third and the game was over, and fans were left sickened by their team’s display as well as under-fire manager Slaven Bilic…
