Soccer | Komphela wary of overworking key players

Cape Town – Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is aware of the dangers of overloading his more experienced players during a busy fixture period.

Amakhosi are involved in the Telkom Knockout and they face Chippa United in a last eight match in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

With league duties to juggle, as well as a lengthy injury list, Komphela's challenge is to rotate his squad enough to afford senior players such as Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker rest, while also trying to win matches.

"It's a bit hectic, which is why I thought we would have wrapped up the match (the 0-0 midweek draw against Polokwane City) in time so they we can give them a bit of a break," he said.

"Last week we gave Parker less 20 minutes, 'Shabba' less 20 minutes. I thought I would cut miles on their legs.

"(Against Polokwane) I couldn't. It was also psychological to say, let's just bring Shabba out. As if, you know how it is, it's all in the mind. But still he played something like 90 minutes], Parker the same.

"And you could see (Joseph) Molangoane as well, he's putting a lot in his legs. Philani Zulu as well. We are just praying and our numbers are not as complimentary, we are very few," the Glamour Boys coach concluded.
