Everything you need to know about glyphosate

A decision on whether to reapprove the world’s most common weedkiller for use in the EU is set to go down to the wire.

Farmers say that glyphosate is vital to preserve yields of agricultural staples, while environmentalists and health campaigners fear that it can cause cancer and damages the soil.

EU countries on Wednesday failed to reach consensus on a new license and another meeting is set to be held in November, only weeks before the herbicide’s permit expires on December 15.
