‘Boring to watch!’ – Southampton legend Le Tissier tells Leicester fans what they can expect from Puel

Claude Puel looks set to take charge of Leicester City

Matt Le Tissier claims Southampton were 'boring to watch' under Claude Puel amid reports the Frenchman is heading back to the Premier League.

Puel, who was axed as Saints boss in June after just one year in charge, is the favourite to succeed Craig Shakespeare at Leicester City.

Southampton finished eighth in the Premier League under the 55-year-old last season and reached the final of the League Cup.

But club legend Le Tissier admits he was no big fan of the style of play under Puel and wouldn't be too enthused by his appointment if he was a Foxes fan.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Le Tissier said: "On paper it looked like he did a pretty decent job but if you delve deeper than that and look at the style of play…

"Because of what we have been used to under the previous two managers his style of play was just a little bit dull at times and it was pretty boring to watch, I've got to be honest.

"It was pretty defensive-minded. As a manager, you can be a little bit flexible and perhaps he felt with the personnel we had at the football club that was the best way for us to play. If he goes into Leicester where he has a slightly different make-up of a squad, he might play a different way. You never know. But I would be a little surprised if he did that.

"If I was Leicester fan asking a Southampton fan for his opinion, you probably wouldn't get a good report."
