Former Chelsea man Jason Cundy admits its heartbreaking to see the Reds unbeaten and in good form but still nowhere nearer to that elusive crown
Liverpool have got no chance to beating Manchester City to the Premier League title this season, according to talkSPORT host Jason Cundy.
Jurgen Klopps side – who drew 1-1 with Arsenal on Saturday – remain unbeaten after 11 games but currently sit in third, with defending champions City two points ahead at the top of the table.
Cundy admits its heartbreaking to see the Reds claim 27 points from their first 11 games and still be off the pace, insisting that tally would have seen them clear at the summit in any other season.
Chelsea, his former club, are in the same boat – the Blues share the same points as Liverpool but sit second on goal difference.
And Cundy believes City are just too strong for any other club to even attempt at overthrowing them as champions this season.
Speaking on Mondays Drivetime, the former defender said: “When you are Chelsea and Liverpool and youre 11 games into the season and you are still unbeaten, you would expect to be at the top of the table by maybe three, four or five points, but both clubs are second and third!
“So youve gone unbeaten for a quarter of the season and youre still second and third? Thats heartbreaking!
“Any other season and you would be top – 27 points from 11 games is championship-winning points, but Man City have got 29!
“The reason Liverpool cant win it is one: Kevin De Bruyne – he hasnt even played yet!
“Two is David Silva, three is Sergio Aguero and four is Pep Guardiola.
“And, Liverpool fans are going to hate me for saying this, but one of the reasons why Manchester City will win the title this season is Raheem Sterling, and Liverpool may still have had him had they been closer to titles in the past.”
“Liverpool are unbeaten for a third of the season, but are still in third.”
