Cape Town – South African tennis star Kevin Anderson has reached the quarter-finals of the Toronto Masters.
The fourth-seeded Anderson defeated Belarusian qualifier Ilya Ivashka in straight-sets, 7-5, 6-3, in their third-round encounter on Thursday.
Anderson, who needed needed three sets to beat unseeded Russian Evgeny Donskoy 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7/0) in his first match, will next face Bulgarian fifth-seed Grigor Dimitrov for a spot in the last four at the Canadian Masters 1000 event. Dimitrov defeated American Frances Tiafoe 7-6 (7/1), 3-6, 7-6 (7/4) earlier on Thursday.
Anderson also has a doubles match later on Thursday, as he and Serbia's Novak Djokovic will face the formidable third-seeded French pairing of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Their match was due to be played on Wednesday but was suspended due to rain.
