Real Madrid meet with Jorge Mendes to discuss David de Gea transfer
The 27-year-old has long been chased by Real, who were a fax machine error away from signing him three years ago, and they are still on the hunt for a new No.1 despite winning three successive Champions League titles.
Real had been expected to rival Liverpool for Brazil and Roma shot-stopper Alisson, but it appears that De Gea is still their first choice target.
According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Real president Florentino Perez has held talks with Jorge Mendes – who represents De Gea – over a summer switch.
Perez is a long-time admirer and wants to sign the Spanish No.1, while he has already spoken to new manager Julen Lopetegui about the signing.
Lopetegui, who was sacked by Spain on Wednesday after accepting the job at the Bernabeu, would love to have an immediate reunion with De Gea and has backed the pursuit.
Intriguingly, it was also claimed this week that Perez has openly spoken about making De Gea the worlds first £100million goalkeeper, such is his confidence in signing him.
United, however, will do everything possible to keep their goalkeeper, and Real are prepared to move for Alisson or Chelseas Thibaut Courtois if they cannot prise De Gea away.
De Gea made United fans a little uneasy earlier this week when he said that, while happy in Manchester, he wants to win titles, like every other player.
