The England winger has two years left on his current deal but cannot agree with City on his wages
Raheem Sterling plunged his Manchester City future into doubt after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.
According to reports, talks broke down after the player and the club disagreed on Sterlings wages.
The England wingers team believe he should be among the clubs top earners.
Kevin De Bruyne agreed a six-year deal in January worth £350,000-a-week, while Sterling is currently earning half that amount on £175,000-a-week.
The 23-year-old enjoyed his best Premier League season to date in the most recent campaign, scoring 18 league goals, making him the fifth-highest scoring player in Englands top flight.
City had hoped to tie him down before the World Cup, but there is no rush as he still has two years left on his current deal.
The Sky Blues remain confident of securing his future after the tournament.
