World Cup 2018: talkSPORT writers’ verdict on Englands 23-man squad

If it were up to me, there would be no player in this England squad over the age of 27. Obviously we're not going to win the 2018 World Cup, so we should use the tournament to give our youngsters experience and target the 2022 tournament as a long-term aim. This is exactly what Germany did when they brought through the likes of Ozil and Muller in 2010, before winning the tournament in 2014. For this reason I would definitely have binned off the likes of Gary Cahill, Fabian Delph, Ashley Young, Jamie Vardy and Danny Welbeck. I know Welbeck's 27, he's just not good enough. Their replacements should have been Lewis Cook, Ryan Sessegnon, Tom Davies, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ademola Lookman.

Most of the picks were expected, although the inclusion of uncapped Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is a slight surprise with Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker in the group.

Everyone is having their say on who should have gone and who should have stayed home.
