Rio Ferdinand has backed his former club Manchester United to come out on top in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho will hope to lead the Red Devils to a record-equalling 13th FA Cup trophy on Saturday as the 2016-17 season draws to a close.

United finished runners-up to rivals Manchester City in the Premier League but will win a third major trophy under Mourinho if they defeat Chelsea.

Antonio Contes side have endured a dismal season, failing to replicate last seasons stunning title charge as they missed out on a top-four finish.

I fancy Manchester United to win the game, former Manchester United and England defender Ferdinand said.

There are still improvements to be made to the team but when I played there the mentality at the beginning of every season, and Im sure it is the same now, get your hands on a trophy and finish top of the league.

They have obviously finished second. But if they can get their hands on that trophy then they have done alright.

Mourinhos tactics as United manager have often been criticised but Ferdinand says his critics are showing disrespect.

He is very good at what he does, Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, told The Sun.

Sometimes people are bit disrespectful if you are a defensive-natured coach – its still an art form in the game.

The way to look at it with Mourinho is, has this team improved from last year? Well the league table does not lie so yes the team has.

Manchester United face Chelsea on the back of their 1-0 win over Watford on the final day of the season – the Blues ended with a 3-0 defeat at Newcastle.
