Liverpool to move for Riyad Mahrez if Thomas Lemar transfer fails
Jurgen Klopp‘s side are in the market for a new attacking acquisition as Philippe Coutinho looks set to secure his move to Barcelona.
The La Liga leaders are ready to spend £140 million on the Brazilian, who is reportedly confident that his switch to Camp Nou will happen before the month is over.
According to The Independent, Lemar is Liverpool’s first-choice target, but Monaco have already insisted that the France international will not be sold before the end of the campaign.
The report also claims that Mahrez is Klopp’s second choice should Liverpool fail to agree a deal with the Ligue 1 champions for Lemar.
Mahrez could represent a more feasible target for Liverpool as Leicester City were ready to sell the winger for around £45m in the summer.
Speaking about Mahrez’s future earlier this week, Leicester boss Claude Puel said: ‘Riyad is a valuable player to the team.
‘When I discuss things with him he has shown a good attitude, he is enjoying his football. He is a happy player. This is a good thing.
‘No [hasn’t said he wants to leave]. He is happy with the squad. After that, it is speculation.
‘For me, there is no problem. He is happy to play with his team-mates. He loves football.’
